Director of Human Resources – US Remote
Introduction
Our client is an international industrial company with operations across North America and Europe. The company operates a manufacturing facility in South Carolina and is part of a broader international organization.
The U.S. business is currently looking for a hands-on and experienced Director of Human Resources to oversee all HR activities for its U.S. operations.

Mission
The Director of Human Resources will be responsible for managing the full scope of HR activities for the U.S. organization.
This is a strategic and hands-on role, combining day-to-day HR management with longer-term workforce and organizational initiatives.
Reporting directly to the CEO, the HR Director will act as a trusted partner to leadership and managers while ensuring compliance with U.S. federal and state employment regulations.
The successful candidate will oversee the full employee lifecycle, from recruitment and onboarding through employee relations, performance management, training, payroll and benefits administration, and offboarding.
Key Responsibilities
1. Recruitment & Staffing
Manage the full recruitment cycle, from job posting through offer and onboarding.
Develop job descriptions in partnership with department managers.
Identify current and future staffing needs.
Coordinate interviews, background checks, pre-employment screenings, and hiring documentation.
Develop relationships with staffing agencies, local schools, professional networks, and community organizations.
Support recruitment and retention initiatives in a competitive labor market.
2. Onboarding & Employee Integration
Coordinate new employee onboarding and orientation.
Ensure completion of all required employment, tax, benefits, and I-9 documentation.
Introduce new employees to company policies, procedures, and safety requirements.
Maintain accurate and compliant personnel records.
Ensure a smooth integration of new employees into the organization.
3. Employee Relations & Management Support
Serve as the primary HR contact for employees and managers.
Provide guidance on performance, attendance, conduct, and workplace issues.
Coach managers on HR-related matters and employee management.
Investigate employee concerns and complaints.
Manage disciplinary processes and employee terminations.
Contribute to building a positive, respectful, and collaborative workplace culture.
4. HR Compliance & Workplace Safety
Ensure compliance with applicable U.S. federal and state employment laws and regulations.
Maintain and update company HR policies and employee handbook.
Support compliance with regulations including EEO, FLSA, FMLA, OSHA, and other applicable requirements.
Manage employee documentation and HR records.
Work closely with operations and management on workplace safety initiatives.
Coordinate workers' compensation matters and return-to-work processes.
5. Payroll & Benefits
Coordinate payroll administration with the Finance/Accounting team and external payroll providers.
Ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll and employee changes.
Manage employee benefits, including health insurance, retirement plans, life insurance, and leave programs.
Coordinate annual benefits open enrollment.
Maintain accurate PTO and attendance records.
Act as a point of contact for employee questions regarding compensation and benefits.
6. Training, Workforce Planning & HR Strategy
Identify training and development needs.
Coordinate technical, safety, management, and leadership training.
Monitor workforce indicators including headcount, turnover, absenteeism, and retention.
Develop initiatives to improve employee engagement and retention.
Partner with senior leadership on organizational structure and workforce planning.
Support succession planning and long-term talent development.
Maintain HRIS and personnel records and support internal or external audits.

Candidate Profile
Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
5+ years of progressive HR experience, ideally as an HR Generalist, HR Manager, or HR Director.
Experience in a manufacturing, industrial, engineering, or other operational environment strongly preferred.
Experience working independently within a small HR team or standalone HR function.
Strong knowledge of U.S. employment legislation and HR best practices.
Experience with employee relations, payroll, benefits, recruitment, and compliance.
Skills & Competencies
Strong understanding of U.S. federal and state employment regulations.
Experience with HRIS, payroll systems, and applicant tracking systems.
Strong Microsoft Office / Microsoft 365 skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong employee relations and conflict-resolution capabilities.
High level of confidentiality, integrity, and discretion.
Highly organized and detail-oriented.
Able to manage multiple priorities independently.
Comfortable working remotely while maintaining a strong presence with employees and managers onsite.

International Environment
The successful candidate will work within an international organization, interacting with colleagues and leadership across North America and Europe.
Experience in an international environment is therefore highly valued. Exposure to cross-border HR matters or international mobility would be an advantage.
Work Location & Travel
Remote position within the United States.
Candidates based in South Carolina or neighboring states are preferred.
Monthly travel to the company's South Carolina facility is required, generally for several days.
Candidates must be located within a compatible U.S. time zone to ensure effective collaboration with the leadership team.
Compensation
$110,000–$115,000 USD annually, depending on experience and qualifications.
